IT SPORTS Wigginton suffered their first setback of 2009 when they were beaten 3-2 away at arch-rivals Pontefract in the Yorkshire Squash Premier League.

The York side got off to a losing start when Jon Duffield lost 3-2 to Yorkshire Over-25s player Alan North.

Matt Lowery then lost 3-0 to Sam Wileman, before PSA professional Neil Cordell got the visitors on the board with a 3-0 win over James Earles.

Pete Billson levelled the match with a 3-0 win over Hiranda Singh, but Andy Whipp was beaten 3-0 by former world number one Lee Beachill.

However, Wigginton kept their title chances alive with a 3-2 victory over closest challengers Chapel Allerton.

Duffield was beaten 3-1 by former Wigginton team-mate Neal McKinnon, but Lowery returned to form to beat Chris Rusling 3-0.

The ever-impressive Cordell beat Chapel coach Neil Gurney 3-0, before two five-set matches settled the outcome.

Billson lost 12-10 in his decider, but Whipp hit back from 2-0 down.
