THE two teenagers and one man killed in a horrific car accident at Spofforth have now been formally identified.

They were killed on Tuesday evening when five teenagers in a silver Citroen Saxo smashed head on with a white Skoda Felicia outside Stockeld Park.

The driver of the silver Citroen Saxo was Craig Jamie Robert Rayiru, aged 19, from Pannal, Harrogate. His front seat passenger was Joseph Andrew Wilson, aged 18, also from Pannal, Harrogate.

The driver and sole occupant of the white Skoda Felicia was Howard Catley, aged 49, from Harrogate.

Mr Catley's wife Angela paid tribute to her husband.

She said: “I was married to Howard for nearly 20 years, he was my best friend as well as my husband. He was always smiling, rarely angry and made a positive impression on everyone that knew him.

“He spent his life looking after other people in his job as a support worker and also as a volunteer with charities such as Breakaway which helps disabled and older people go on holiday.

“I am struggling to see what my life will be like without him. He was a very special person who will leave a huge hole in a lot of people's lives. I will miss him.”

Of the three rear seat male passengers in the Citroen Saxo, only the 17-year-old remains in hospital. He is in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary.
