Arthur Benstead mastered the difficult conditions at Linton, where the Ouse was falling but still three feet up.

Benstead found his 5lb 10oz of roach sufficient to earn the win despite drawing unfancied peg 17 at Thorpe Underwood.

The Pontefract rod started off with a small maggot feeder down the edge to take three early fish to the pound mark before changing to worm on the hook to add a further six fish.

At Linton peg 294, Sensas Wibsey’s Ian Fieldhouse also changed tack halfway through the match.

Starting on the pole and maggot, Fieldhouse found nine roach to 10oz then switched to lobworm on the bomb down the same line to add further roach to a 4lb 15oz total.

Result: 1 Arthur Benstead, Pontefract, 5-10-0; 2 Ian Fieldhouse, Sensas Wibsey, 4-15-0; 3 John Cyrowski, Barlby Village Stores, 3-12-0; 4 John Illingworth, Daiwa Dons, 3-5-0; 5 Pete Barron, Daiwa Dons, 2-15-0; 6 Darren Taylor, Saints, 2-14-8.

Though little had changed from the previous day, the Ouse gave up a few more fish above York on Sunday.

Keith Mottram led from peg 228 downstream of the favoured bream hotspot at Hunters Lodge, but he still teased out a slab on worm and feeder down the edge and added four good roach for a winning 9lb 7oz.

Keith Hobson opted for the pole in the steadier water at Linton peg 247, where maggot again brought a single bream topped up to 7lb 2oz with roach.

Third place was split between Ian Bowman and Benstead at peg 244 and peg 220 respectively. Both used worm and feeder for 5lb 7oz of roach.

Result: 1 Keith Mottram, Yeadon, 9-7-0; 2 Keith Hobson, Maver Barnsley, 7-2-0; jt3 Ian Bowman, Maver Barnsley and Arthur Benstead, Pontefract both 5-7-0; 5 Dave Miles, Leeds Angling, 4-14-0; jt6 Pete Barron, Daiwa Dons and Terry Morgan, Aireborough both 4-0-0.
