THE increasing problem of people illegally dumping trade waste at York’s household recycling centres will be tackled with the introduction of a permits scheme.
Residents are being reminded that from Monday, February 9, the scheme will be introduced at the council’s three household waste recycling centres at Hazel Court, Beckfield Lane and Towthorpe.
Once introduced, the scheme will mean residents using a trailer or larger vehicle will need a permit to use the sites. If they do not have a permit, they will be unable to gain access.
For each visit made in a vehicle that needs a permit, one permit must be handed in to site staff. Applicants will be provided with 12 permits initially, and if all of these are used within 12 months of issue, they can apply for more.
However, all applications will be monitored and any request could be refused.
A spokesman for City of York Council said: “Permits will only be provided to residents that live in York and these are free of charge to householders.”
