THE battle of Clifton saw the club’s ‘A’ team beat the ‘B’ team 8-1 in ladies’ division one in the York Badminton League.

Karen Anderson and Heather Clarke were outstanding for the first team in a keenly-contested match, taking all three games in straight sets for a winning scoreline of 126-86.

St John Ladies continued their good start to the division two season with a 9-0 home win over a spirited Selby Jubilee team.

Niki Hainsworth and Helen Wilson set the standard for the victors with three straight wins in a 126-53 scoreline.

Selby Jubilee suffered a further setback when they visited Huntington and went down 7-2.

Lisa McClaren and Chiara Secchi were in devastating form for the home team and were untroubled in taking all three straight wins for a 126-52 triumph.

York RI Monday/Wednesday still lead the way in ladies one.

Old rivals York RI ‘A’ and Clifton ‘A’ met in mixed division one, with the Institute running out winners by a 7-2 margin.

Chris Hunt and Kate Jackson put in a solid display for RI by taking three wins for a 144-102 margin.

However, they had to work hard to suppress the challenge of Gill McIntosh and Erik Wagenaars 21-17, 18-21, 21-17.

A hard-fought game in mixed two saw Selby/Drax ‘A’ edge out hosts RI Tuesday/Thursday ‘A’ 5-4.

Neither team produced a pairing dominant enough to take all three rubbers. It was left to Scott Anderson and Michelle Hall to clinch the match in the final rubber with a 21-12, 14-21, 21-10 win over Matt Hitchens and Penny Sheard. Tadcaster 86 ‘B’ stretched their lead at the top of mixed division five with 8-1 away wins over Middlethorpe and Fulfordgate ‘B’.

The Middlethorpe match saw Andrew Cooper and Jaclyn Cowie hit top form to convert their dominance into three straight wins for a total of 126-84.

In the Fulfordgate match, Cooper, partnered by Jenny Duxbury, returned a 126-69 win in straight games.

Garry Hall and Jean Davison stopped the whitewash with a 21-14, 11-21, 21-17 win over Mark Hanson and Cowie.
