A MAN was arrested after the car he was driving left a major road near York and ended up in a hedge.

Police said the incident, which involved a blue Citroen Saxo, happened on the A64 at Copmanthorpe, and was reported to them at 3.05pm yesterday.

The 32-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs and driving while disqualified.

Officers said the man was not injured, but was left shaken by the collision. They said he was taken to York Hospital for a check-up, and then into police custody.

Meanwhile, in a separate crash, a blue Citroen C2 car collided with the rear of a tanker, on the B1223 at Boggart Bridge, Wistow, near Selby. The tanker was parked at the time of the incident, which was reported to police at 12.34pm yesterday.

The driver of the car was taken to York Hospital with minor cuts. Police said the road was closed for about an hour.

And, in another incident, which was reported to police at 12.40pm yesterday, a Ford Transit van and a Citroen C4 car were involved in a collision on Newsham Road, at Newsham Bridge, Malton.

Police said one of the drivers was taken to Malton Hospital with leg injuries, which they said were not believed to be serious.
