A REWARD of £1,000 has been offered for information leading to the capture of a masked armed robber who carried out a raid on a York card shop.

Stephen Kane, the owner of Cardland, in Allerton Drive, Nether Poppleton, has put up the reward following the incident, which happened at about 4.45pm on Friday January 2.

The offender entered the shop and, brandishing a knife, ordered the female shop assistant to open the till. He made off on foot with an amount of cash.

Mr Kane said: “Somebody must know who this man is. If you do, please do the right thing and report it to the police. What he did that day was terrifying for our shop assistant and he cannot be allowed to get away with it.”

Det Con Mike Avison, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “It is vital that this offender is arrested as soon as possible. Even the smallest piece of information could be a big help.”

The robber is described as white, in his late teens, about 5ft 4ins tall with a skinny build. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black anorak-type jacket with a hood, a black scarf wrapped around his face, black gloves, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

If you can help, phone Det Con Avison on 0845 6060247 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
