I HAVE been researching my Blakey family history and wonder if anyone has the information which is contained in the family Bible of William Blakey and Ellen Fox, who were married at Coxwold in 1868. They lived in Coxwold for most of their married years, except for a short time when they lived in Myton-On-Swale.

From 1877 to 1965, some of the family lived at Maxwell House, Coxwold – opposite the church, where one daughter was in the choir for more than 60 years.

When the house was emptied in February 1965, the Bible seems to have disappeared.

My paternal grandfather, Henry Blakey, was a younger brother of William and they and their other sisters and brothers were all born at Terrington.

I have some information from the Coxwold parish registers, but a great-granddaughter of William and Ellen told me she saw the Bible when she was young and that there were more children in it than what I have on the family tree.

Many years ago, my late parents and I visited Coxwold and the name Percy Fox was mentioned. I believe he was the village postman at one time, so perhaps there may be someone still living in the village who has some information to help me. I have the Blakey Tree for Terrington back to c1781 for the male line.

I also have the Nawton Tree (my paternal grandmother’s family), back to 1726 in North Yorkshire, and if I can help anyone with these families I will be pleased to do so.

If anyone can help me I will be very glad to be able to add on to my tree and all letters will be answered.
