HOODED carjackers viciously attacked a petrified teenager in a York street.

The horrified father of Martin West, of Fulford, has now appealed for any witnesses to come forward following the attack by a gang of six masked attackers.

Martin, 19, was left with a badly-bruised and swollen face when, after giving a lift to a crowd of strangers, he was then turned upon and viciously beaten up for his car.

Martin was in his red Fiat Punto with his girlfriend, on the way to pick up a friend from McDonalds on Monday night.

As he stopped outside the city centre fast-food restaurant, three other youths jumped in his car and asked for a lift to Tang Hall.

Martin’s dad, Steve, said: “He is always doing something generous like that – it is the sort of lad he is – so he said yes.”

While Martin was about to drop off the three teenagers in Tang Hall Lane, three more youths – their faces concealed with scarves – approached the car.

“The lads in the car just started thumping Martin in the face,” said Steve.

“His girlfriend ran off frightened down the street, Martin tried to run off with his car keys, but all six lads chased him.

“One of them said ‘give me your keys now before I cut you up’, so he handed the keys over.

“They then took his car and drove off.”

Steve said he is appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Martin said there were loads of cars driving past while this attack took place, so somebody somewhere must have seen something,” said Steve.

“I would ask anyone who was in Tang Hall at about 10pm to come forward and help police find these youths.”

He said since the incident, which happened on Monday night, Martin had been left shaken-up and frightened.

“He has not slept at all,” said Steve.

“He is terrified that the lads from Tang Hall are going to come down to Fulford with a knife, looking for him.

“His face is badly-bruised and swollen down one side.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact York police on 0845 6060 247 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
