I would like to commend the Derwent Hunt for deftly avoiding accident or incident of illegal hunting during their New Year’s Day proceedings, despite a fox literally leaping into their path (Huntsmen surprised as fox leaps out, The Press, January 5).
This shows that those hunts that are properly committed to the law and correctly prepared are more than able to abide by it while enjoying a cruelty free version of their sport.
The Hunting Act 2004 is a popular piece of legislation that is supported by 75 per cent of voters, and I believe this incident simply highlights the fact that it is clear and workable for all.
Our focus will be to continue to work with the Crown Prosecution Service and the police to ensure that the law is properly enforced and that the bloodthirsty minority who wilfully flout it are brought to book.
