A STRETCH of one of the busiest roads in North Yorkshire will be closed overnight for ten days to allow resurfacing and reconstruction work to be carried out.
City of York Council will be running the project along the section of the A19, immediately south of the A64 roundabout on the edge of the city, with workmen moving in from 9pm next Wednesday.
The stretch of road will be closed on weekdays between 9pm and 6am, starting next Thursday, although it will be open for traffic as usual outside these hours and over the weekend from 6am on Saturday, January 17, to 9pm on Monday, January 19.
Diversions will be put in place along nearby roads and access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be available at all times, with the number 415 Arriva bus service changing its route to run through Naburn and Stillingfleet to Escrick.
“As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption and inconvenience, but everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum,” said a council spokeswoman.
“Delays are anticipated and travellers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.”
The contractor carrying out the work will be Tarmac Limited National Contracting.
