ONE of the letters in The Press on Wednesday, December 24, was from Bob Waite of Holgate, York (Cameras won’t improve safety). He raised a point about drivers not indicating when turning.
A few months ago, as a pedestrian, I was about to cross the junction of Mill Lane at the East Parade mini-roundabout.
Watching traffic, I wrongly assumed cars from Layerthorpe were going down East Parade, so I set off to cross as no indication was shown. My rearward leap saved major harm, but my right wrist connected with a car’s nearside mirror, caused bruising for ages.
I wrote a letter to York Police’s traffic division asking if this event was “driving without due care”. I gather this is a grey area.
Could a campaign be started to highlight this dangerous lack of thought in driving skills? Perhaps a message could be put on the illuminated message boards on the main roads into the city, saying: “Use your indicators at every junction and roundabout.”
