WETHERBY Racecourse may wait until tomorrow morning to see whether their seven-race meeting that afternoon can go ahead – following an up-turn in the weather.
Chief executive Jonjo Sanderson told The Press on Wednesday the track needed “a miracle” in the face of the wintry weather which gripped Britain earlier in the week.
But temperatures on Wednesday night ranging between 2 Celsius and 6 Celsius have helped to thaw out conditions and, while some frost remains on the track, Sanderson is a little more hopeful for the meeting’s prospects.
“We may roll through (with an inspection) until tomorrow morning,” he said.
“There are still a handful of areas still frozen but they are not rock solid.
“If today the frost is all out we will do our best to cover as much as we can.
“If we can start with a clean sheet, and put one or two procedures in place to safeguard the course, we might have a fighting chance.”
