A HOUSEBOUND woman who died in a York blaze that may have been sparked by her own cigarette has been named.

Lyn Winzar, 61, lost her life when fire broke out in the living room of her semi-detached home in Whitethorn Close, Huntington, on Monday evening.

Following a post-mortem examination, her name was released yesterday as an inquest into her death was opened and adjourned.

Police have said they do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the deadly blaze, which led to floral tributes being placed outside the front door of the fire-ravaged house.

And regional fire investigation officer Trevor Lund has said the “intensive investigation” had indicated that “smoking materials” were currently the most likely cause of the tragedy.

He added the fire had led to smoke filling the house and had badly damaged the living room, with investigation teams sifting through the wreckage of the building in a search for clues about how it started.
