ON Friday, October 3, I parked my car at 8.45am at the Askham Bar Park&Ride car park and boarded the bus for the city centre (with a return ticket).

Upon my return at 2pm, there was a notice on the car windscreen, which threatened a £50 fine (payable to City of York Council) for, and I quote “parking and not using the outward park and ride service”.

A member of First staff had gone round the car park and randomly singled out my vehicle, for the above mentioned ticket; and what about others?

My point being, it is impossible for anyone to monitor all the comings and goings, of every car, throughout the course of a day (so why just pick one motorist at will)?

I went to the office (staff only) and I could produce my dated Park&Ride ticket for that day’s travel. At my insistence the so-called “parking ticket” was torn up, and I therefore did not pay anything.

Perhaps my letter could act as a warning to Park&Ride customers to ensure they are using this service, and to keep their bus ticket to prove it.

PS: No apology at all from First Bus.
