RESIDENTS living close to York High School were left without power for hours as a result of the blaze.
The electricity supply was cut off, affecting 160 homes in Lowfield Drive and Kir Crescent in Acomb.
A spokesman for CE Electric, the parent company of NEDL, said: “There’s a sub station at the school. The electricity supply was cut off before 7am as a safety precaution and was restored at 9.55am.
“We will be inspecting the school’s electricity equipment as soon as the school tells us it is safe to do so and we have clearance from the fire service.
“We apologise for the delay. However, it was essential. We thank customers for their patience. We know what an inconvenience it can be.”
