A top venue in York has undergone its end of summer transformation.
SPARK:York, the community venue located in Piccadilly, hosted a weekend full of Oktoberfest activities to celebrate the arrival of winter and the return of its roof for the winter.
Last week, with the installation of the canvas roof, custom-made hot boxes, an increased number of heaters, and protective shielding against the winter weather, SPARK says visitors can now look forward to a "snug retreat" as temperatures fall.
The three day operation, from September 23 to 26, was led by Leeds-based designer Sachelle Clarke.
There is also new lighting, 'Black Forest' inspired decorations, and new graffiti artwork created by local artists.
Visitors can also drink from SPARK’s new bar: Low Contact.
Low Contact features a curated selection of European wines. With a focus on organic and 'biodynamic' practices, the wines are unfiltered, unfined, and contain low sulfites to preserve their unique character and prevent oxidation.
The bar will offer a rotating selection of wines by the glass, including white, rosé, orange, and red, along with exciting specials that will change frequently.
'Quingo', Spark's quiz and bingo game night, will resume on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. The weekly event features two rounds of general knowledge questions, a selection of music, and the opportunity to win cash prizes.
In 'Quingo', participants that answer questions correctly get to mark their bingo cards, competing for prizes by achieving a full house or completing a row. Entry is £2 per person, and teams of up to six participants are welcome.
On Friday, September 27, SPARK began its Oktoberfest celebrations. As part of the celebrations, they filled German-style steins with a variety of Bavarian beers, and some vendors offered special dishes inspired by the region.
Paulina Lewicka, the marketing coordinator at Spark, said: "We had an incredibly successful weekend.
"It was truly heart-warming to see so many York residents come out to participate in our Oktoberfest activities, from the lively games to the delicious food and drinks, all while celebrating the spirit of our community."
