A person was rushed to hospital after a motorcycle and car crashed on a main road into York, the ambulance service said.
The crash happened at about 9am this morning (Wednesday, September 25) at the junction of Tadcaster Road and The Square, opposite the Tesco Extra supermarket.
As The Press reported earlier, police were on the scene with roads closed.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said one person was taken to hospital after the crash.
“Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to York Hospital,” a service spokesperson said.
Shortly after 11.45am, City of York Council said the crash had been cleared and the roads open as normal.
A council spokesperson previously urged drivers to avoid the area after the crash.
The AA said traffic was backed up to St Helens Road and moving slowly.
Bus routes were also affected by the closures.
York Pullman Bus Company and Coastliner both said its routes were affected.
"Due to an accident near York College the 1010 service from Colton will be unable to serve Askham Bar Tesco or Middlethorpe Grove or South Bank, the police have closed the road," a York Pullman Bus Company spokesperson said on X.
"Due to an incident near York College, Coastliner will be diverting between Old Moor Lane and Copmanthorpe," a Coastliner spokesperson said on X, adding that stops would be missed, towards Malton, at Copmanthorpe, Tadcaster Road and York College, and towards Leeds at York College and Copmanthorpe Top Lane.
