A York artist has designed a new garden inspired by the rotor blades of an air ambulance.
Kate Smithson’s design for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s Reflection and Remembrance Garden, which won the Best in Show award at the Harrogate Flower Show earlier this year, will now be permanently displayed at Roundhay Park in Leeds.
The design, on show in the park’s Specialist Gardens, features a yellow metal pergola inspired by the rotor blades used on air ambulances across Yorkshire.
“I designed the garden to create a peaceful and reflective atmosphere,” said Kate. “The pergola, curved benches, central pool, and soft plantings are all intended to provide a space where people can take a moment to pause and remember.”
Tessa Klemz, regional fundraising manager at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, has led the garden project over the past 10 months.
“Roundhay Park is such a beautiful, central location that is freely accessible to everyone,” she said. “We hope that people will come here to take a moment to reflect and remember, whether they have a personal connection to Yorkshire Air Ambulance or not.”
