Hundreds of cyclists are set to come together for a group ride in York.
On Sunday, October 6, York Cycle Campaign is coordinating the event to celebrate the benefits of cycling, and call for more room to ride in York.
The event is held annually around the same time as Kidical Mass movement rides around the world.
Cyclists of all ages are invited to join. And the group asks attendees to bring signs, flags, speakers and decorate themselves and their bikes to make the occasion as "loud and colourful" as possible.
According to a transport strategy produced by York Civic Trust in 2023, cycling levels in York had fallen by a third in the last decade, as the numbers of short car journeys increased.
A spokesperson for York Cycle Campaign said: "This city should be a place that shows others how it’s done, but we’re getting left behind. Safety is a huge concern for people cycling in York.
"Most people are just trying to get from A to B, and cycling is the most reliable way to do that.
"Even slower cyclists can get from the edge of the city to the centre in around 20 minutes.
"It really benefits people’s physical and mental health, so we want to encourage more people to cycle, and we want to see the necessary support for that."
Anyone wanting to join the ride should assemble at Hungate Reading Cafe, off Stonebow at 10.15am for a 10.30am start.
