A VILLAGE primary school has expanded its provision opening its doors to welcome two-year olds children into its nursery.
Leavening Community Primary's long running school-based nursery has undergone a transformation to offer provision for children aged two, three and four.
Headteacher Sian Mitchell said: "The nursery uses the curiosity approach to learning which aims to give children back their freedom by igniting their natural curiosity and imagination. When adopting this teaching method, children are able to think for themselves, make their own choices, and direct their own learning. The nursery also offers outstanding outdoor provision by way of the expansive outdoor garden area, the school field, a forest school area, a sensory garden, a playpark and a community garden with an allotment plot.
"With high adult: child ratio and experienced staff this is a fantastic addition to the already thriving nursery and school."
Leavening Community Primary School and Nursery was rated as ‘good’ in all areas in November 2023.
The Ofsted report said children in the early years benefit from a curriculum that prepares them for future learning. They learn and explore and adults encourage pupils to talk and to extend their vocabulary.
The Governor responsible for Early Years, Jan Lomas said the school was delighted to be able to offer this provision to the local community.
“Parents often feel they want a ‘home from home’ for their children starting nursery and Leavening certainly offers that. With the benefits of a term time only offer, full provision from 7.30am until 5.45pm and being fully engaged in the life of our school family, our school based nursery is an ideal setting. The feedback from parents has been so encouraging and it is wonderful to see our school family rapidly increasing with our two year old children joining us."
Leavening Community Primary School and Nursery are holding an open day on Tuesday, October 22. between 9.30amd and 3pm for all prospective parents of children in the EYFS. Phone the school on 01653 658313 or email admin@leavening.n-yorks.sch.uk to book a slot.
