A MEMBER of the public lending police their bike in York helped the force make a number of arrests.
North Yorkshire Police say that on Tuesday night (September 17) officers responded to several incidents in the city including chasing suspects on a borrowed bike.
A police spokesman said that in Newgate Market, following ongoing issues in the area, they pursued a man.
They said: “He attempted to evade capture and was arrested for possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and assaulting a police officer.
“Thank you to the vigilant members of the public who reported suspicious activity and supported our efforts.
“Later, we received reports of multiple thefts in local shops. Thanks to the quick response of our officers, three youths were arrested for theft, and one further arrested for possession of a Class B drug.
“Special thanks to City of York Council cameras for providing crucial evidence that aided in these arrests, and to the member of the public who allowed an officer to use their bike whilst pursing a suspect.
“Your cooperation and support are vital in our fight against crime. Together, we can make York a safer place for everyone. Thank you for standing with us.”
