A York brass band will use the music of David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and more to tell a story inspired by Wallace and Gromit.

The York RI Golden Rail Band will be joined by the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir for the concert at The Citadel, in Gillygate, at 7.30pm on Friday, September 20.

They will tell the story of ‘The Mouse and the Moon’. In it, mouse Theo thinks the moon is made of cheese and plans to steal its stock for himself.

The tale is set to music by David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, as well as folk singer Kate Rusby. There will also be songs from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and classic brass and big-band style swing.

“It’s a bit of a homage to Wallace and Gromit,” said Nicholas Eastwood, Golden Rail’s conductor. “It’s family friendly, but there’s something there for absolutely everybody.

“What’s so special about the concert is that it’s an amalgamation of a choir and a brass band, those two synonymous sounds coming together, and that’s a glorious combination.”
