TWO hairstylists who’ve worked together for 25 years in York salons and have ‘always been a double act’ have opened up in a place of their own.
Co-owners Victoria Hartley and Ally McCloud spoke to The Press on the day after the opening of The Hair Club in Walmgate.
The two-storey salon, which has just been fitted out after life as a lettings agency, will offer traditional hair services and Victoria and Ally also specialise in the Great Lengths brand of hair extensions.
Ally, from Fulford said: “We’re not planning to have strict opening and closing times at The Hair Club as we’ll work to people’s needs, not a fixed process or like a production line.
“We’ve done it for certain clients in the past and from experience found that they prefer that.”
Victoria, who is from Acomb, said: “It feels amazing to have our own salon.
“I’d like to thank our amazing friends, family and clients.
“We’ve got a few IOUs to honour, having turned everything around and opened our own business in only five weeks.
“I feel very relaxed and tranquil, especially as our clients are like family.
Ally said: “Hence, The Hair Club – we want clients to have a sense of belonging.
“Gone are the days of the big salons with 30 staff, each carrying out one part of the process before moving onto the next station.
“Each client will get to deal with us, and will have our full attention.”
The duo say they are close to signing up to be the sole supplier of a major brand for York.
