PLANS to close a household waste recycling site for 11 weeks have been put on hold.

As The Press reported last month, the site at Pocklington was set to be closed for eleven weeks from September for essential improvements.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council said initially it was having to temporarily close the site, in Pocklington Lane, Burnby, from Monday, September 23 to allow for the installation of a new drainage system and it was scheduled to reopen on Saturday, December 7.

But the council now says they have been delayed – meaning it won’t close in September and will instead remain open as the work to install a new drainage system has now been rescheduled for next year.

They say it's due to unforeseen circumstances with a future date for the closure has yet to be announced.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “This planned work will no longer go ahead this year, so residents can continue to use the recycling site as normal over the next few months.”
