A popular shoe chain has announced it will be closing its store in a North Yorkshire town.
Clarks confirmed to The Press that it will close its Selby store in Gowthorpe on Saturday, September 14.
“We’d like to thank our loyal customers who have shopped with us at this stores, and we’ll be delighted to continue to serve them with our full range of products online and at our nearby Clarks stores in York, Monks Cross and Wakefield,” a spokesperson for the shoe chain said.
In York, the company – founded almost 200 years ago by brothers Cyrus and James Clark in Somerset – has stores in the Coppergate Shopping Centre, at Monks Cross and the McArthur Glenn Designer Outlet.
The footwear chain operated across more than 1,400 stores and franchises at its peak but last year the number had fallen to 320 shops.
