TWO men have been arrested in connection with a reported rape in York.
North Yorkshire Police say the pair have been arrested following a reported rape in York in the early hours of yesterday morning (August 28).
They say that yesterday evening, officers arrested two men, aged 20 and 18 and they both remain in custody.
As The Press reported yesterday, the incident occurred between 3.30am and 4am in Piccadilly and North Street.
The arrests followed an immediate and extensive investigation by North Yorkshire Police officers, including CCTV and forensic examination.
And the force says they are also keen to hear from any motorists or taxi drivers, who may have captured anything on dash-cam.
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page said: "This is a shocking incident, and I understand it will have caused significant concern in the local community.
"Two suspects have now been arrested, and our enquiries are ongoing, so I would urge anyone who has information that could assist us to get in touch.
"Officers from York's neighbourhood policing team will be on patrol in the city centre today and into the weekend, and will be able to provide extra reassurance to members of the public.
"The victim is continuing to receive specialist support."
A police cordon remains in place this morning (August 29) in Piccadilly close to the entrance to the City of York Council car park.
The riverside entrance to the riverside access to the Coppergate Centre has been taped off with a police scene guard still in place.
The pedestrian entrance to the Coppergate Centre is closed.
Yesterday an area of North Street Gardens was also cordoned off with a police scene guard there throughout the day.
