I am dismayed to say the least that the Labour Party - “The Party for the people” - decided as its first act to stop the Winter Fuel Allowance to pensioners.

Pensioners who worked hard all their lives, looking forward to enjoying their retirement, first have their TV licences taken away, now the winter fuel allowance - while the junior doctors who held everyone to ransom last year with their continuous strikes and the train drivers who did the same get salary increases.

It seems that the ‘Party for the people’ has become the ‘Party to pander to the petulant’.

It is very sad that the Labour Party’s first call to make savings is to penalise the elderly: people who are defenceless, as they don’t have huge unions backing them or ways to hold the public to ransom.

And so ends the Fairy Story that the Labour Party would be better!
