THE cause of an overnight fire at a York leisure centre ‘compound’ is being investigated as most of its facilities remained open today (August 26).
As reported in The Press this morning, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews to Energise Leisure Centre in Cornlands Road, Acomb just before 5am.

The service said it extinguished wooden pellets which were on fire next to a silo and a fire investigation officer would determine the cause.
A spokesperson for Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), which has four centres in York, said: "Following the activation of the alarm system, the fire brigade attended an incident in the biomass silos located in a secure external compound at Energise Leisure Centre.
"No staff or customers were affected.
"The leisure centre's gym, climbing wall, studios, pitches and sports hall are all open as normal and we anticipate the pools reopening tomorrow.
Meanwhile the nearest Better pool is at York Leisure Centre in Kathryn Avenue."
"A service update will be posted online."
