A daredevil stunt rider will be aiming to break a nerve-shredding world record at Elvington Airfield tomorrow – by being dragged behind a superbike at more than 160mph.

Jonny Davies, 32, has already broken one world record.

Back in 2020, he successfully completed a 109mph wheelie while sitting on the petrol tank of his bike with both legs over the handlebars.

It earned him an entry in the 2022 Guinness World Record book.

Tomorrow, he’ll be attempting an even more daredevil stunt.

He’ll accelerate his modified Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX to 160mph – then climb off the back of it and ‘ski’ behind it on specially-made titanium shoes.

Mark Starzynski, organiser of tomorrow’s Ultimate Supercar Show at Elvington Airfield at which Jonny will make the attempt, said a special accelerator has been fitted to the back of the bike, which Jonny will be able to use to accelerate the bike once he’s in ‘ski’ mode.

The world record for ‘fastest speed dragged behind a motorcycle’ was set in 1999 by Gary Rothwell of Liverpool, who reached a speed of 156.3mph at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicester.

Jonny is hoping to top that by going at more than 160mph – and he’s enlisted Rothwell to help him.

Jonny will be making his record-breaking attempt at about 12.30pm tomorrow.

Mark said the event organisers had held off making an announcement about the attempt until they were fairly confident that the weather would hold.

But the latest weather forecasts suggested the weather will remain dry – so the attempt is on, Mark said.

Jonny will have about an hour – between 12.30 and 1.30pm – to break the record.

The stunt will be just part of a day of high-speed, high-Octane activity at the airfield.

With 60 runway cars taking to the runway to showcase their top speed, Mark says Ultimate Supercar offers one of the only places in the UK to watch supercars break the 200MPH barrier.

On top of the runway action there will be special cars on show, with a new ‘ultimate’ display area, and more than 150 performance cars on display.

There will also be 100m drag racing, monster truck rides, a supercar paddock, food and drink from a range of vendors, and traders offering a selection of automotive products, clothing, and memorabilia.

“Last year was a brilliant first event and we can’t wait to make it even bigger and better this year,” an event spokesperson said.

“In addition to the all-day runway action, we’re looking forward to the new additions this year – especially the Launch Zone, which will allow spectators to see sports and supercars drag racing up close.”

Tickets to the all-day event are available from https://www.ultimatesupercar.co.uk/ priced £23 adult, £17 under-16, £3 under-12.

Tickets will also be available mat the gate on the day, but will be more expensive, at £30 form adult entry.
