Update: Man flees the scene after two found injured in York city centre
Police are dealing with an incident in York city centre.
A large police cordon has sealed off part of Dame Judi Dench Walk, next to Museum Gardens.
Police officers were at the scene at 1.30pm today (Friday, August 9).
An unmarked police car was outside Museum Gardens, at the Museum Street entrance, at 1.30pm and had left by 1.50pm.
Witnesses on the scene said a police car and ambulance left the scene at about 1.20pm.
Another witness said he saw a police car leaving the Marygate car park with its sirens on shortly before 1.50pm.
Members of the public could still pass the section of Dame Judi Dench Walk that was sealed off - either by using the walkway closer to the Ouse or by doubling back and going through Museum Gardens.
Two police officers were at the cordon, standing at either side of the tower at the bottom of Marygate.
A mountain bike was seen lying on its side on the ground near the tower inside the cordon.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of an assault in the Marygate area of York which happened at about 12.45pm today, after which a male suspect ran off from the scene.
"On arrival, we located two men who had suffered injuries, one of whom was taken to hospital for treatment.
"Enquiries are at an early stage, and are ongoing.
"If you saw anything that could assist our investigation, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 12240143474."
