A 'LITTLE used’ field in York is set to be converted to ‘a place of beauty’ with help from the local community and a creator of nature-based projects.

Clifton Without Parish Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 6 with Biodiversity UK Ltd to create a legacy project from the field behind Clifton Old Library in Rawcliffe Lane.

The parish council wants the area to be known as ‘Without Meadow’.

Biodiversity UK Ltd, based in York, will collect and used data on the site to evidence planned increases in biodiversity, and put on education programmes for people of all ages.

Andy Dearden, chair of Clifton Without Parish Council said: “We welcome this partnership and the opportunity to bring some colour to the parish.

“We will be involving people from across the parish in the work, and hope that children from both Clifton with Rawcliffe Primary School and Vale of York Academy will be involved.

“We look forward to the wildflowers that will attract bees and other pollinators.

“We will be ensuring that there is access from Landau Close to the playground at all times.”

Bob Procter, director of Biodiversity UK Ltd said “Biodiversity UK are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Clifton Without Parish Council to deliver biodiversity rich projects within a suburban area.

“Hopefully this first legacy project will benefit the local community for many years to come.”

Work start this autumn and by next year will have wildflowers supporting pollinators and creating the wildlife haven in the middle of the parish.
