REGARDING letters relating to the Traffic Congestion Scrutiny that I called for, and the reason why I was asked to comment in this publication, I would like to correct some of those who have commented by letter.
Firstly to Bob Waite, nowhere in the article did I back congestion charging, and I clearly stated that it was just one of a number of options suggested by council officers. Scrutiny topics are not a final decision process of the council, as they have to go to the council's executive for endorsement. Also, as the final report clearly notes, there is much work and investigation required before any of the possible solutions is implemented.
In relation to J Beisly's comments on the growth in traffic over the next ten to 15 years, can I suggest that J Beisly either contacts the council for copies of the background and final reports, or gets them through the council's website - all the meetings held have been public meetings, and have been advertised as taking place, so all the documentation is available. From these documents it is clear how future traffic growth will happen and affect York I would ask both commentators, and any other York residents who have views on the subject to ensure that they take part in the Traffic Congestion Consultation that will be dropping through their doors in the near future.
Councillor Tracey Simspon-Laing, Member of the Traffic Congestion Scrutiny Panel, Salisbury Road York
