Dan, the son of legendary broadcaster Peter Snow and the nephew of Channel 4 news anchor Jon Snow, is also the great great grandson of British Prime Minister David Lloyd George.

He's been to the city many times before, saying: "I've spent a lot of time in York: one of the most beautiful historic cities in the UK; in the world, in fact.

"York is a vital stopping-off point for anyone interested in history, and it should have been the capital of England if Northumberland hadn't mucked things up!"

In recent months film crews have been spotted several times in the city.

Last month filming took place on board City Cruises York boats on the Ouse for a "major drama" that will be shown on Netflix.

Meanwhile people living close to Bishopthorpe Road in York noticed filming taking place on August 25 at BNT off licence and grocery shop on the corner of Nunthorpe Road in South Bank.

There were reports locally that the filming was for a feature film for Sky, but the precise details is not yet known.

The crew were also reported to have been filming at nearby All Saints RC School which was open the same day for pupils to go and collect their GCSE results, was otherwise closed for the school summer holidays at the time.
