The rightful king of England in 1066, Harold Godwinson, would surely curl his lip at the thought of a descendant of William the Conqueror's mum and dad becoming MP for York Central - the very heart of the north which the illegitimate Duke of Normandy harried almost to extinction.

Susan Wade Weeks, who also is descended from the bloke who brought that infamous son of York, Guy Fawkes to justice, has an actress daughter who appears in Foyle's War, by coincidence set in Hastings.

King Harold's housecarls surrounded his body and fought to the death, shouting: "Out, Out," to the Norman victors, just as northern voters once shouted: "Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, out, out, out."

The problem for Thatcher's admirer, Gordon Brown, is I can't see his own bodyguard of Ministers prepared to make similar sacrifice with their careers.

But Ms Wade Weeks has a nerve condemning the disgraceful New Labour policy on tax and post offices.

Alan Duncan, the Tory Shadow Business Secretary, has admitted they would have a post office closure plan too, and under John Major from 1992 to 1997 the Tories closed on average four post offices each week.

Regarding her rightful condemnation of New Labour's taxation of the less well-off, the Tories have no intention of reinstating the 10p tax band.

Perhaps Ms Wade Weeks could explain in detail what some Tory policies are:

* Tory toff David Cameron says his party is the one to address poverty - how? * Will the Tories improve the state pension?* How will the Tories help those on low income?* Will the Tories invest in UK infrastructure including council homes? Ms Wade Weeks needs to convince York why it would be worth shouting: "Tory, Tory, Tory in, in, in."
