These last couple of months of winter can seem to go on forever as the weather teases us with four seasons in one day. And what's the weather like in your mind?

Lots of people get restless and impatient at this time of year - whether they are basically happy in their job or they are proactively seeking a change. Spring may be just around the corner but it doesn't always feel like that.

So if you are in the throes of discontent and finding it hard to focus on work or your job search, take a tip from Eastern philosophy - when the mind is working overtime, give it a rest.

Maybe meditation isn't quite your thing but if you rather like the idea of inner peace amid the winter gloom, why not give it a go? All you need is a quiet corner, five to ten minutes (preferably first thing in the morning) and some relaxing chill-out music - avoid anything with lyrics, you are simply looking for something soothing and gentle to help you still the mind's chatter.

And you don't have to adopt a yoga position. Just sit comfortably with your feet flat on the ground, your hands resting on your knees and close your eyes. Breathe deeply a few times and just focus on your breathing. As thoughts come in to your mind, notice them and let them drift off. You can set a timer if you like, or just choose a piece of music that plays for the amount of time you want.

That's it. There's really no "right" way to do it. Simply stopping the world for a short period of time with the intention of letting your mind empty will work a great deal of magic. Practice this every day for a week and you may just begin to experience blue skies and sunshine, at least in your imagination, that will light up your daily challenges.
