HUNDREDS of residents, revellers, bar staff and restaurant workers in York were evacuated tonight due to an incident which forced police to close Ouse Bridge.
At 9pm this evening police closed of the area around Bridge Street and asked those in bars including The Living Room, the Slug & Lettuce, the King's Arms, The Parish and Yates's to leave and move to a safe distance as they surrounded a lone man on the bridge.
Residents living in the flats fronting the River Ouse were also asked to leave their homes at about 11pm.
