IT is 90 years since British women won the right to vote. We have come a long way since.

Though still under-represented in the boardroom and in politics, women now play a full part in most areas of public and working life.

It is hard to imagine they once had to risk reputation, freedom and even life to fight for the most basic of rights. A vote makes us citizens. It gives us a voice in the affairs of the society we live in.

It is worth all of us, men and women alike, pausing to remember that - and to be thankful for what we have.
