THE devastating damage caused by a fire which ripped through a North Yorkshire house, killing two people, is revealed in these images.
The pictures by freelance photographer Sean Stewart show the roof of the property in Camblesforth, near Selby, completely destroyed by the flames.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of yesterday, led to the deaths of two people, while a man escaped the property and is being treated for injuries.
Police and fire service officers are conducting a joint investigation into the fire, and have not yet commented on the possible cause.
The house is close to the Comus pub, where a member of bar staff told of everyone's shock at the fatalities.
She said: "Everyone is a bit distraught. It's a real shock. The house is just across the car park from the pub, and the car park had to be cordoned off.
"We only heard last night that two people had died. The pub was open but the atmosphere was very sombre."
Villagers said that a widow and her two sons lived at the property.
Mike Jordan, Selby District councillor for Camblesforth, said: "My thoughts go out to the family.
"We need to find out what's happened, because house fires such as this are very rare nowadays, with sofas being fire resistant and so on.
"It's been a terrible weekend, as there was also a fatal motorcycle crash at Sherburn in Elmet."
