SELBY District Council is asking its residents for views on new policies regulating the way that land is used for housing.

The policies aim to give the council greater control over location and amount of land used for residential development.

The council is introducing a Local Development Framework to replace the existing Selby District Local Plan, including policies controlling the release of land for housing.

In the meantime interim measures are being imposed to cover residential development and housing distribution.

Coun John Mackman, Chair of Selby District Council's Planning Committee, said: "Currently the number of homes being built is double the annual requirement so it is necessary to introduce measures that support the council to ensure development happens in a planned and measured way.

"It's also vital that we ensure the right levels of affordable homes are available by working with developers. We're really keen to get people's views - the best resource we have is local people with extensive local knowledge."

Selby District Council says delivering the right housing for people who live and work in the Selby district is an on-going priority.

The consultation runs until February 28, with documents available online at www.selby.gov.uk.

Copies are also available at the Civic Centre, and at Selby District Council offices in Tadcaster and Sherburn in Elmet.
