UPDATED 12.30PM: The fire has been put out and the road has been cleared.
REPORTS are coming in of a vehicle on fire on a major road.
There's currently a lorry on fire on the A59 Roman Road at Poppleton on the outskirts of York.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the scene while emergency services deal with the incident.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called out at 10.04am to Northfield Lane in Upper Poppleton.
A spokesman said: "Crews from Acomb were called to a lorry on fire.
"This was a fire to the brakes which resulted in fire heat damage to the wheels and brakes only.
"Crews used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera."
