Six talented teenagers are celebrating getting Oxbridge offers.

The students from York College and Pocklington School have been made the offers ahead of them taking their A-level exams later in the year.

At York College, former Mount School pupil Margaret Brooks is studying A-levels in maths, further maths, biology, chemistry and German and intends to read medicine at Brasenose College, Oxford.

Meanwhile Martin Chan, a former Oaklands School student, is studying A- levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics and intends to read engineering at University College, Oxford.

Miggy Biller, curriculum leader for maths and co-ordinator of Oxbridge applications at York College, said: "Both Margaret and Martin are studying A-levels in maths, further maths and also an additional AS further maths unit which, along with their other A-level subjects, is quite a heavy workload.

"We wish them luck in their exams so that they can fulfill their ambitions."

Four Pocklington sixth formers have been offered places at Oxbridge next October subject to A-level results.

Rosie Paulson and Tom Clarke have been offered places at Oxford, Rosie at Queen's College to read politics, philosophy and economics, and Tom at New College to read biochemistry.

Matthew Jones and Arnold Lee have offers from Cambridge, Matthew from Girton to read archaeology and anthropology, and Arnold to read maths.

Head teacher Mark Ronan said: "Congratulations to Rosie, Tom, Matthew and Arnold on achieving these offers. We are delighted that they have the opportunity to go on to study at two of the UK's top universities and wish them every success with their chosen courses."
