I WRITE this letter with some trepidation - will people think I'm aggressive and opinionated, that I'm not socially refined, or worse, that I'm neglecting my duties as a home-maker by actually finding time to sit down?

I am, of course, referring to the utter twaddle spouted by John Cossham (It's a man thing, Letters, January 26).

Even in my distant past a woman could look after offspring, do two dozen household chores a day and in some cases have a career as well - and still find time to write letters and "tread on toes" where necessary.

That said, I have to hand it to Mr Cossham, for the first time in my life he left me (almost) speechless.
