There are options for all dietary needs, including gluten-free, though the Sunday lunch offering appears to only have one vegetarian option each week.

One reviewer told Tripadvisor: "The Rattle Owl is fantastic - the best Sunday roast in York.. The service is wonderful, the food is brilliant and the kid's £10 Sunday lunch is amazing value, and means you can have a lovely grown-up meal in a child-friendly place.. From roast beef to melt in the mouth chicken, you can expect a quality Sunday lunch from Victoria Restaurant Cattal, according to reviews.

One happy customer said: "Lovely meal, went for a family Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Good menu choice and everyone enjoyed it. Cheese soufflé and Garlic mushrooms for starters, Roast Pork, Roast Beef, Fish pie for mains all good quality and really tasty with lots of fresh veg . Sticky toffee pudding, Eton Mess, Crème brûlée for pudding. The staff were genuinely lovely, friendly efficient and a credit to the place. We will be back."

Every Sunday, The Whippet Inn hosts its ‘Lets Get Roasted’ Sunday lunch event.

Sunday roast is served from midday until it sells out, usually around 4pm.

One reviewer told Tripadvisor: "Just had such a lovely roast in this traditional feel York pub. The Yorkshire puds were massive, plenty of veg and importantly generous amounts of gravy. All three courses we had were lovely. The staff were super smiley and nothing was too much trouble. I would 100% recommend."

For those who love quality food and an interesting environment, the Chopping Block Restaurant serves up Sunday roasts in a 17th Century Grade ll Listed building.

Even better, chefs are happy to accommodate alterations to menu items for different dietary needs, including dairy and gluten free switches.

One regular customer said: "I have come here a lot with friends for a Sunday roast as it is the best in York. I was sat in the front of the restaurant and was waited on by Caroline.

"The food was incredible as always and the service even better. Everything we needed was catered for, no issue was too big or small.

"I will be returning soon!"

One reviewer said: "The food was good quality, tasty & plentiful.

"I didn't realise the Sunday lunch was served in a HUGE Yorkshire Pudding, which I'm not a fan of. I asked if next time I could have more vegetables instead. This was positively received all I have to do is ask. My husband loved his!

"Both courses were lovely, which was enjoyed with a bottle of red wine, brandy to complete the meal."
