JANUARY is a month City of York Hockey Club Men's I will want to forget in a hurry.

The side have yet to pick up maximum points in 2008 after a 5-2 home defeat by Wakefield I in the Northern Hockey League premier division.

City bossed the game in the first half and they took the lead when Alex Cockram scored after slick interpassing split open the Wakefield defence.

Indiscipline then proved the home side's undoing as they conceded a free hit, which was moved forward ten yards for dissent. City continued to argue and Wakefield were awarded a short corner, from which they scored.

In the second half, the visitors added two more short corner goals before skipper Matt Couttie pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go.

Two York players were then yellow carded and Wakefield added two further goals.

City of York II, who had conceded 17 goals in three games, went down 1-0 at Richmond I in division two east.
