A LAST-GASP goal earned Acomb Hockey Club Men's I a deserved 2-2 draw with Slazengers II in Yorkshire League division three.

Acomb, who are unbeaten at home, had a score to settle after a 5-1 defeat at Slazengers earlier in the season.

However, the Tangerines went 1-0 up early in the game after the ball was struck in the circle by a Slazengers player and it took an unfortunate deflection into the net off an Acomb stick.

Acomb had most of the possession in the first half but were unable to convert the wealth of chances into the currency they wanted - goals.

In the second half, Mark Gibbons continued to boss the midfield alongside skipper Nick Linfoot.

Acomb's central defenders - man of the match Pete Hilton and Dave Bell - put in a series of great tackles.

The equaliser came from a quick cross-court free hit from Baz Whitfield to find Matt Gray and his pass put Ian Roberton through to score.

With about ten minutes to go, things took a turn for the worse for Acomb when Simon Theaker and a Slazengers player were both shown yellow cards.

Slazengers caught Acomb on the break to make it 2-1.

With under two minutes to go, a last-ditch tackle from Whitfield just outside Slazengers' 25-yard line was followed up with a pass through to Roberton, who scored to tie the game.

In Yorkshire League division nine, Acomb II were beaten 8-0 by leaders Driffield, who have scored more than 100 goals already this season.

Meanwhile, Acomb Ladies I were 2-1 winners over Bingley Bees to stay top of Yorkshire League division one.

Bingley took the lead from a short corner but Sue Yoward levelled the scores.

Excellent defensive work earned Rachel Linfoot the Acomb player of the match award and kept the Bees at bay, while Kerry Rafton sealed the three points.

The Acomb Mixed team were 3-2 winners against City of York. Acomb took the lead through a Paul Yoward after a cross from Rachel Holmes.

York equalised through a swept in shot from Richard Tanner-Smith.

Pete Hilton regained the advantage for Acomb when he swept in a deflection off a defender.

York struck an equaliser through Eddie Shoesmith with only five minutes left. A well rehearsed penalty corner rebound was struck home by Andrew Church with a minute remaining to seal three welcome points for Acomb.
