NINE out of ten City of York Council tenants are satisfied with the authority's housing service, according to new figures.

The council's annual Tenants' Satisfaction Survey was sent to 2,000 tenants last October, giving them an opportunity to provide feedback on how satisfied they are with their homes and the services that they receive from the council.

Half of those who received the questionnaire replied, with satisfaction in the overall service tenants receive from the housing team rising to 88 per cent - an increase of eight per cent since 2006.

Of those who responded, 87 per cent were satisfied with their accommodation and 86 per cent were satisfied with the value for money of the rent. A total of 83 per cent were satisfied with the way the council dealt with any necessary repairs.

Additionally, 88 per cent of respondents said City of York Council was a good landlord and 87 per cent described the general condition of their homes as either good or very good - an increase of seven per cent on the 2006 figures. Only eight per cent said they were dissatisfied with the condition of their home.

Steve Waddington, head of the council's housing service, said: "We are working very hard to improve the service that we provide to our customers and to see a set of customer satisfaction results like this is very pleasing. Our aim is to provide the best service we can to our customers and we will continue to do so."

Sue Sunderland, the council's executive member for housing, said: "I am extremely pleased with the excellent results of this year's survey, which shows that tenants' overall satisfaction has increased. I believe that this is down to the excellent work of officers involved in delivering our services."
