MATT Winn scored four tries and Tyler Dawson a hat-trick as York Acorn ARLC under-16s fired on all cylinders to thrash Scarborough Pirates 64-4 in the Yorkshire League Cup.

The young Blue and Golds showed from the off what a good ball-handling side they are, with Winn opening the scoring on the right wing early on and Dawson soon touching down, too, to send them on their way.

Antony Chilton and James Mountford dictated play and, with willing runners feeding off them, Acorn continually punched holes in the Scarborough defence.

Quick handling movements created space out wide for further first-half tries by Leeke, Tom Eaton, Jordan Hyde and Winn.

Scarborough opened the second half scoring but this merely kicked Acorn back into life, and tries from Dawson (2), Josh Mortimer, Kyle Myers and Winn re-established dominance, with the try of the match coming as Dawson and Hyde set up Leeke to run home.

Winn and James Mountford completed the scoring, with Chilton's and Dawson's goals adding to the tally.

York Acorn U12s enjoyed an impressive 24-8 win over fellow promotion- seekers Castleford Lock Lane.

The Blue and Golds showed excellent skill in defence as well as attack, led by captain Harry Bromwich, who topped the tackle count and was joint-man of the match with loose-forward Lewis Lord.

Tries from full-back Liam Forshaw and second-row Josh Potter, and a conversion from Ali Fawcett, gave the hosts a 10-4 lead at the break, and further tries from centre Josh Thompson and Potter made it 18-4.

Lock Lane didn't give in, but Acorn's defence, with forwards Ashley Robson, Zak Agnew and Ricky Watson impressing, was solid and was breached only twice.

Improving second-row Jarred Smith came off the bench and scored his first try for the club, with Zak Agnew's goal completing the memorable win.
