A SERVICE was held at Bishopthorpe Palace to remember former staff members who served and died in both world wars.
Thirty members of staff were called into service during the conflicts, including three who lost their lives during the First World War - The Reverend Edward Gibbs, Gunner Charles Barker, and Private Frank Outram.
A silhouette of a First World War soldier and the names of the three former staff members who died has been placed at the foot of the Gatehouse at the palace.
Staff members who previously served in the armed forces laid down wreaths and crosses.
The Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell led the prayers during the event on Thursday this week - Armistice Day.
Bishopthorpe Palace - the official residence of the Archbishop of York - will be illuminated in poppy-red until November 14.
