ROLL up, roll up all ye citizens and visitors to our city centre Christmas spectacular shopping experience and get a taste of downtown Beirut with our “ring of steel" and its hideous barriers.

...THERE'S no need to spend ridiculous amounts on security barriers to surround the city centre during the festive season, simply ban them from entering the zone - well it works for keeping the disabled people out.
Seriously though, if York has the third most popular market in the UK (The Press, November 11) it must be high in the sights for potential terrorism targets and the barriers will make it safer for the public from assault by vehicles.
